Dr. Barbara Meyer

As part of the opening event of the national members organizations gathering of the International Council of Christians and Jews in Warsaw, Poland on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Dr. Barbara U. Meyer was awarded the 2025 SEELISBERG PRIZE.  The SEELISBERG PRIZE is named in memory of the ground-breaking gathering that occurred in the small Swiss village of Seelisberg from 30 July to 5 August 1947 to address perennial Christian teachings of contempt for Jews and Judaism. It issued the very influential "A Call to the Churches: The Ten Points of Seelisberg" which is widely recognized as inaugurating the transformation in relations between Jews and Christians that has unfolded over the past seventy-eight years. The SEELISBERG PRIZE is awarded annually (since 2022) by the International Council of Christians and Jews (which originated out of the Seelisberg conference) and the Center for Intercultural Theology and Religions at the University of Salzburg. It honours individuals who have played major roles through their scholarship and teaching in advancing the rapprochement between Jews and Christians.

Dr. Barbara U. Meyer, the 2025 Seelisberg Prize awardee, is an associate professor of religious studies at Tel Aviv University. Her most recent book is Jesus the Jew in Christian Memory: Theological and Philosophical Explorations. At the award ceremony on June 29th, Dr. Meyer spoke about her recent research on the measuring of time in the Jewish and Christian traditions. The title of her lecture was "Shabbat and Sunday: From Disinheritance to Recognition."

The Council of Centers on Jewish-Christian Relations, the United States national member organization of the ICCJ, extends its congratulations to Dr. Meyer upon receiving this singular honor.
